Heredity is not the main risk factor for breast cancer

The prability is that 1 every 8 women develop breast cancer throughout their lives.

Among the risk factors, are associated: age, poor diet, sedentary lifestyle, race, personal and family history. However, genetics is not the main one.

Genetics, when related to cancer, specially the breast one, is something that scares and frightens for the individual’s possibility of being afflicted by the disease.

The Brazilian Society of Mastology cleared out that to think of heredity as the main risk factor is a myth. In a study, only 5% to 10% of breast cancer cases are related to family genetics. In most cases, tumors appear by other factors, the so called sporadic tumors.

Even though it’s not the main factor, there are genetic tests that can be done on women with high mutations risk associated to breast cancer.
