Cancer is a cruel disease that affects patients and their families in unexpected ways. The treatments adds complications and symptoms to that. An American study confirms what we already believed to be true; that human warmth and help outside hospital and clinic care has a big impact in the results of the treatment. We just couldn’t fathom the weight of it. We live in an era of big innovations regarding cancer treatment, with the discover of wonderful drugs and procedures. We can’t forget, however, the power of attention, love and dedication, and how much a simple chat can add to the treatment. What brought results in this stud wasn’t technology as much as it was the team behind it.

The example of Florence Nightingale stays relevant, and good medicine needs to work on the concept of quality, humanization and multidisciplinarity, particularly in the treatment of a disease as deadly as cancer.
